Carl John Studt, 85, of Springville, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha. Funeral Service: 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Marion. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at the funeral home, and from 9:30 a.m. until the service on Wednesday. Burial: Czech National Cemetery, Cedar Rapids, with military honors by Springville American Legion Post 331.
Carl was born Oct. 6, 1928, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Charles and Nona (Slaymaker) Studt. He was united in marriage to Evelyn Louise Jiroutek on Aug. 2, 1953, at Hus Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids, where he remained a member. Carl served in the 57th Armored Tank Battalion in Germany during the Korean War and was a longtime member of Springville American Legion Post 331.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn; daughter, Janice (Michael) Daft of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; son, Jon (Judy) of Springville; five grandsons, Joseph and Paul Daft of Birmingham, Ala., Matt (fiancee, Ashley), Mark and Jacob Studt, all
of Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and sister, Marie Yates.
Carl farmed all of his life, starting in the Fairfax area before moving to the Springville area. He enjoyed all things farming and time spent with family and friends.
