McKay, Melvin L.
Melvin L. McKay, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 23, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center, following a brief illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Friday at Teahen Funeral Home by Pastor Boyd Sparks. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday after 9:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sharon; two sons, Randy (Pam) of Deep River and Ron (Heidi) of Cedar Rapids; one daughter, Raegan (Ron) Wesbrook of Cedar Rapids; six grandchildren, Dusty, Alicia, Kyle, Aly, Nathan and Avery; one great-grandchild, Sage; one brother, Ernie (Pat) McKay of Utah; four sisters, Doris Stephenson of What Cheer, Julie Siebert of Newton, Marna (Jon) Dahlstrom of Cedar Rapids and Nancy (Lester) Clark of St. Louis, Mo.; brothers-in-law Dennis (Julie) Wolf of Oak Ridge, Tenn. and Donald (Lori) Wolf of Deep River; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Cliff McKay.
Melvin LaVerne was born Feb. 10, 1936, in Keswick, the son of John and Opal (Dean) McKay. He married Sharon Kaye Wolf on June 23, 1962, in Deep River. He served in the Air Force and retired from Quaker Oats after many years.
Melvin was a Master Mason, member of Eastern Star and served on the Rainbow board. He enjoyed spending his time doing crossword puzzle every morning, upholstery work and most of all spending time with his children and grandchildren.
