Arnolia "Arnee" Rawson Schmorr, 87, of Hiawatha, died peacefully Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Promise House in Hiawatha. Services: 11 a.m. Friday at Palo United Methodist Church by the Rev. John Howerton. Burial: 1:30 p.m. Friday, Spring Grove Cemetery, Covington. Friends may visit with the family from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids, and after 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
Survivors include her children, Gloria (Ray) Schmorr Fiday of Chicago, Alison Schmorr of Hiawatha and Keith Schmorr of Dallas, Texas; sisters, Norma McVay of Palo, Ada Olmsted and Christina (Calvin) Moore of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Arnee was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; son, Stephen Schmorr; brother, Herbert "Bill" Rawson; and sister, Nadine Nelson.
Arnee was born Jan. 6, 1926, in Covington, the daughter of Martin Shaw and Arnolia Glea West Rawson. Prior to her marriage, she worked at People's Bank and the Linn County Courthouse in Cedar Rapids. She married Edward Henry Schmorr in June 1950 in Cedar Rapids. She atttended Tulsa Junior College where she obtained her Business Administration Degree. Arnee worked as an administrative assistant for the city of Tulsa for 22 years. Arnee was a long time member of the Boston Avenue Methodist Church in Tulsa.
Arnee loved to travel with her brothers and sisters. She also lived all over the country including: New Jersey, California, Oklahoma and Iowa. She was an avid reader and writer who called herself a "frustrated journalist." She enjoyed Las Vegas, playing bridge and the Chicago Cubs. While in Tulsa, she loved the staff and her friends at the University Village Retirement Community and the Senior Select Nursing staff.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Promise House in Hiawatha for their kind and compassionate care for Arnee.
