Joyce L. Lewis, 84, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of LaGrange, Ill., passed away Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
Joyce was born March 3, 1930, to George and Helen Richardson in Oakland City, Ind. She was a graduate of Oakland City High School and nurses training at St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Ind. Joyce married Marvin Lewis on Aug. 30, 1952, in Owosso, Mich., and moved to LaGrange, Ill., for 52 happy years.
Joyce worked for over 25 years at LaGrange Women's Clinic, loved being a docent at Brookfield Zoo, volunteering at LaGrange Community Nurses Thrift Shop and spending time "walking the zoo" with her grandchildren, family and friends.
She was a loving, kind and supportive wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be deeply missed especially by her husband, Marvin; daughters, Kim Lewis and Kay Slater, all from Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Megan (Steve) Schwar of Forest Park, Ill., Emily Slater of Cedar Rapids and Mark Slater of Phoenix, Ariz.; and sister-in-law, Lorraine Meyer of Owosso, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Louise Hubble.
Services were held June 16 at St. Paul's Parish, Riverside, Ill. Burial services at a later date.
Memorials to St. Paul's Parish Foundation, St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Brookfield Zoo.
