Graveside services will be at St. John's Cemetery following the Mass. There will be a time for sharing memories of Adella from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at Papich-Kuba Janeba Chapel West, 1604 J St. SW.
Adella is survived by her husband, Donald R. Laue. Their children are Rick (Debbie) Laue, Marion; Diann (Allen) Morse, Covington; Robert Laue (deceased); and Donna (Laue) O'Brien, Ronald Laue and Denice (Paul) Sotzen, all of Cedar Rapids. They have 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Phyllis (Ed) Shimak and Dixie (Raymond) Shimak; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Raymond, Clarence (in infancy) and Edward Shimak; and two sisters, Valaria Shimak and Helen (Ed) Balik.
Adella was born Feb. 1, 1930, in Protivin, daughter of John F. and Anastasia "Stella" (Polashek) Shimak. She graduated from Rudolphinum High School in Protivin in 1948. Adella was married to Donald R. Laue on June 27, 1951, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Protivin. They would have celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary later this month.
Adella worked for Rockwell Collins as a PBX switchboard operator and retired in 1992. She also had worked at Brevard Community College while Donald was sales office supervisor for Collins Radio in Melbourne, Fla.
She was a loving mother, who enjoyed crossword and jigsaw puzzles, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her quiet personality will be a reminder that service to others is more important than personal attention.
Adella was a member of American Legion Auxiliary Post 605 in Protivin for 66 years. She spoke and wrote Czech fluently and was proud of her heritage.
Special thanks to Dr. Mary Anne Nelson and the Mercy Medical Center nursing staff for the attentive care given to Adella. We appreciate all your thoughts and prayers!!!!!!
