Schuchmann, Lloyd Wayne
Lloyd Wayne Schuchmann was born Nov. 20, 1928, and passed away peacefully on Dec. 29, 2013, at Deerfield Retirement Center in Urbandale, Iowa.
Lloyd grew up in Strawberry Point, Iowa, where he met and married his wife of 65 years, Fonda Mae Snyder.
He began his working career with the City of Strawberry Point and then the City of Waverly before beginning work with Voice of America which took him and his family to Germany, the Philippines, Morocco, Greece, Maryland, and then eventually retiring in Strawberry Point.
Strawberry Point was always a place Lloyd held fondly in his heart. He loved the beauty of Clayton County, including the countryside, the trout fishing, pheasant hunting, seeing deer run, the eagles fly, and of course playing golf.
Lloyd was active in his community serving his church, the Lions Club, and on the EMS just to name a few. He received the Lions Club Melvin Jones Fellow Award, was the volunteer of the year award recipient for Clayton County, and was also recognized by the state of Iowa.
He is survived by his wife, Fonda of Urbandale; sons, Gregory (Linda) of Omaha, Neb., Steven (Christine) of West Des Moines and Jeffrey (LeDonna Durant) of Las Vegas; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Harold (Mary Ann) of Humboldt; and a sister, Reva (Don) Bunting of Ames.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents, Theodore and Thelma Schuchmann; and sister, Mavis Allen.
A private memorial service will be held at Deerfield Retirement Center in Urbandale on Friday, Jan. 3.
