Mathews, Dolores M.
Dolores M. Mathews, 93, of Farmersburg, died Sunday, March 31, 2013, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien, Wis.
She was born March 24, 1920, in Farmersburg, Iowa, to Harvey and Linda (Mueller) Klasen. Dolores graduated from Farmersburg High School and earned her associate degree in Dubuque. Dolores was united in marriage with James “Jay” Mathews on July 18, 1942, in San Luis Obispo, Calif. Four children were born to this union. She enjoyed being a homemaker, playing cards, canning, baking, spending time with family and friends, her flower and vegetable gardens, her “Roseville” collection of pottery and volunteering for Meals on Wheels in Farmersburg. Dolores was a very active lifetime member of St. John Lutheran Church and she was on the Good Samaritan Nursing Home and Great River Care Center boards.
Dolores is survived by three children, Dr. James (Deborah) Mathews of Chicago, Marilee (Harlan) Wright of Indian Head, Md., and Frederick “Fred” (Lisa) Mathews of Lansing; her grandchildren, James (Nili) Mathews, Jamie Mathews, Matthew (Laura) Wright, Carrie (Rick) Holt, Samantha (Lorenzo) Mathews-Leon and Cody (Stephanie) Mathews; and her great-grandchildren, Zachary and Benjamin Mathews, Mara, Elle and Matthew Wright and Evelyn and James Holt.
Dolores was preceded in death by her husband, James John Mathews in 2004; her daughter, Marilou Mathews; her parents; and her father- and mother-in-law, James and Ella Marie (Schrader) Mathews.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in honor to Dolores to the Farmersburg Library or the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, April 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, and one hour before services at the church on Saturday. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 13, at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, with the Rev. Dr. Jennifer Edinger as officiant. Inurnment will follow at Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, Farmersburg.
Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Monona, is helping the family with the arrangements.
