Cecelia Agnes Walsh was born Aug. 18, 1924, in Kinross, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Rose (Manion) Walsh. She graduated from Keota High School in 1942. Cecelia moved to Minneapolis, Minn., where she lived for 38 years, until moving to Cedar Rapids in 1986. She worked at Western Union for many years. She was known to others by "Cel," "Teia" and "Susie."
Cecelia was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. She was a volunteer for the reading program at Monroe Grade School in Cedar Rapids for 12 years. She enjoyed the Minneapolis Twins and later the Cedar Rapids Kernels, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, playing the fiddle and spending time with her family.
Cecelia died Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids at the age of 89 years.
Cecelia is survived by a sister, Veronica Bittner of Solon; and numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Mary Katherine (infant) and Benita Walsh; and three brothers, Paul, Harold and Hugh Walsh.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at noon Wednesday, June 11, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wellman. The Rev David Brownfield and Deacon Derick Cranston will officiate. Burial will be held in St. Patrick Little Creek Cemetery, rural Kinross. Visitation will be Wednesday, June 11, from 11 to noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, a general memorial fund has been established.
