Scott was born Dec. 15, 1950, the son of Maynard and Bernice Libenguth Strabala. He received two bachelor's degrees from Iowa State University.
Scott was employed for 27 years at Fort Madison Aquinas Catholic Schools, where he taught middle school and high school science. He coached softball, track, and cross country and also served as athletic director, bus driver and groundskeeper. He loved sharing his love of nature with the students he taught.
Scott grew up with a keen interest in the outdoors and everything related to nature. This included time spent trapping, hunting and fishing. He loved mushrooming and collecting American Indian artifacts.
Scott loved music, especially music from the 1960s and 1970s. His interest in the arts also manifested itself in the many detailed pen & ink line drawings he completed during his college days.
His pride and joy were his “collectables” which included everything from antique sporting memorabilia to coins, baseball cards, and wildlife art prints.
Scott is survived by his four siblings, Karen (William) Horner of Iowa City, Keith (Debra) Strabala of Riverside, Rodney Strabala of Iowa City and Kent (Billi Jo) Strabala of Burlington; his niece and nephews, Shannon (Jarod) Webb of North Liberty, Eric (Katie) Horner of North Liberty and Ryan Horner of Iowa City and Jamie (Shannon) Strabala of Ellison Bay, Wis.; and seven great-nieces and great-nephews.
