Robert "Bob" W. Wiederin, 77, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, June 12, 2014, at St. Luke's Hospital following a lengthy illness. Services: 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Jude Catholic Church, by the Rev. Mark Reasoner. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be 4 p.m. Monday at Teahen Funeral Home, where friends may visit with the family from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and at the church Tuesday after 9 a.m.
Bob is survived by his wife, Karen; five children, Daniel (Kristi) of Tampico, Ill., Bret (Tamara), Curtis, and Shawn (Lisa), all of Cedar Rapids, and Amy (Phil) Bartachek of North Liberty; 11 grandchildren, Blayke, Joshua, Chelsea, Amanda, Brandon, Grant, Ian and Ashton Wiederin, Ethan, Lucas and Katie Bartachek; two brothers, Elmer (Joleen) of Carroll and James (Kathy) of Omaha, Neb.; two sisters, Alice (Bruce) Riedesel of Lohrville and Irene (Dan) Wurzer of Farmington, M.N.; and sister-in-law, Betty Wiederin of Glidden.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Merle Wiederin.
Robert Wolfgang was born Oct. 3, 1936, in Mount Carmel, the son of Theodore H. and Rose F. Sturm Wiederin. He graduated from Glidden High School and then served in the Marine Corps. He married Karen Ann Ratigan on Dec. 29, 1962, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Auburn. He worked in construction for Pearson's Wall Systems and Ecolab for many years.
Bob loved the Cubs, Hawkeyes and to play cards. He coached for Cedar Hills Booster Club and umpired for ASA softball, high school baseball and softball.
His family would like to thank Mercy Medical Center, St. Luke's Hospital and West Ridge Care Center for their kind and compassionate care of Bob over the past six months.
