Kroymann, Arlene Churchill
Arlene Churchill Kroymann, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Thursday, April 4, 2013, at Linn Manor Care Center, Marion. Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, April 8, at First Lutheran Church, by the Rev. Kay Slocum. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Arlene is survived by her daughter, Kathy (Tom) Safley, and son, Kraig (Marsha) Kroymann. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Susan (Kevin) Cano and their children, Brandon, Justin and Colin; Lisa (David) Callender and their children, Matthew and Morgan; Brian Safley (Karen Bishop) and children, Krissy and Addilyn; and Eric (Carrie) Kroymann and their children, Tyler, Taryn, Mattysen, Mikayla, Payton and Emersyn.
Arlene was born Jan. 28, 1924, in Valley, Iowa, the fourth child of Charles and Ethel (Frank) Churchill. She graduated from West Chester High School and moved to Cedar Rapids, where she was employed as a supervisor at Collins Radio.
She was a stay-at-home mom until Kraig started school and then she attended Cedar Rapids Business College and worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for several companies until she opened her own bookkeeping/accounting office in her home. She operated that business for over 20 years. She also did custom bridal sewing for Armstrong's & Killian's bridal departments. Arlene's favorite thing was being able to baby-sit her grandkids and even some of her great-grandchildren.
Arlene's life was one of service to her family, always ready to help out whenever one of the kids needed something done. She was a member of ABWA, chairman of Ruth Circle at the church, and organized funeral luncheons at the church for almost 20 years.
Arlene was preceded in death by her husband, Al in December 2012; daughter-in-law, Kristy Kroymann; her parents; three sisters and two brothers.
Memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Linn Manor and Hospice of Mercy (Nancy) for their wonderful care of Arlene the past three months.
Please leave a message or tribute to the family on the website, under Obituaries.
