Dennis A. Pfiffner, 74, of Cedar Rapids, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Thursday at All Saints Catholic Church where friends may call after 9:30 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. John R. Flaherty will officiate. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
Survivor include his wife, Pat; two sons, Erik and Neal (Tammy), all of Cedar Rapids; one brother, Dean (Connie) of Atkins; and three sisters, Joyce (Nick) Cimmento of South Carolina, Sue (Richard) Mihal of Mississippi and Charlotte (Tim) Spacek of Florida.
He is also survived by three grandchildren, Chase, Ty and Caden.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Dennis was born Aug. 13, 1940, in Iowa City, the son of Arnold and Bertha Scholtes Pfiffner and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1958. He married Patricia A. Goheen on Feb. 19, 1966, in Cedar Rapids. Dennis was the owner and operator of the Vernon Heights Standard Station as well as the Third Avenue Amoco Station for many years. He retired in 1991.
Dennis was a member of and co-founder of the Cedar Valley Street Rods Organization, the Cedar Boat Club and proudly served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a real outdoorsman. Dennis enjoyed water and snow skiing, hunting, boating, snowmobiling and street rodding with his two-door '37 Ford sedan.
His greatest joy, however, was spending time with his many friends and beloved family. He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather whose memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Luke's Hospice.
