Irma E. Brown, 88, died Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2015, at Westridge Care Center following a long illness. Service: 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, with Pastor Kevin Moore officiating. Visitation: 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Irma was born April 12, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, to Frank and Beulah (Walker) Brown. She married Raymond Brown in Iowa City on Dec. 6, 1947. She worked in several different retail clothing stores and owned and operated a motel for five years with her husband.
Irma is survived by her husband of 67 years, Ray "Sonny" Brown; her children, Mike Brown and Deb (Bear) Stalkfleet; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; many great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons; and one sister, Frances Hanson.
She volunteered at St. Luke's for 25 years, belonged to TOPS for 40 years and attended Sharon UMC most of her life. She was a big Hawkeye fan and enjoyed bowling, dancing and especially traveling.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Irma's name may be directed to Unity-Point Hospice or Sharon UMC.
