Lois Sabine Weihe, Ph.D. 79, of Coralville, died at home Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, with her children by her side.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Lensing Oak Hill Funeral Service, Coralville, with the Rev. Jenny Seylar officiating. Visitation will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday with the memorial service to follow at 5:30 p.m. Friends are welcome to join the family at a reception which will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dr. Lois S. Weihe Memorial Scholarship Fund for students attending Kirkwood Community College, in care of Hills Bank and Trust.
Lois was born Oct. 3, 1935, in Murphysboro, Ill., the daughter of John and Margaret Sabine. On Sept. 14, 1957, Lois married Robert W. Weihe in Nashville, Ill.
Lois received her bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois and her master's degree in counselor education and Ph.D. from the University of Iowa.
From 1991 to 2000 Lois was the vice president of student development and workforce development at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. She retired from that position in 2000. Following retirement she worked at Pearson and assisted in scoring MCAT and other academic tests.
She began her work in career counseling at Kirkwood Community College from 1967 to 1981. From 1981 to 1991 Lois was the dean of student development and later the dean for the office of academic affairs and planning at Scott Community College in Davenport.
Throughout her career Lois served on numerous advisory boards and committees. Lois was a member of DAR Pilgrim Chapter, the Coralville United Methodist Church and the Lois Club.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Iowa City Hospice and the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center.
Survivors include her three children, John (Patty) Weihe of Coralville and their children, Olivia, Griffin and Barrett, Douglas (Theresa) Weihe of Coralville and their children, Ella (Jacob) Harrington and Sarah, and Anne (Steve) Byer of Oceanside, Calif., and their children, Dustin and Shelby; and her sister, Ruth (Howard) Ray.
Lois was preceded by death by her parents; her husband; her daughter-in-law, Judi; and grandson, Brock.
