PHYLLIS MORAREND

Phyllis I. Morarend, 86, of Garnavillo, died at her home on Sunday, Dec. 28, 2014.
She was born May 21, 1928, on the family farm outside of Osterdock, Iowa. Phyllis received her
education from the Osterdock Country School. On June 12, 1946, Phyllis was united in marriage with Earl Morarend at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Guttenberg. For many years, Phyllis worked on the farm beside her husband while they raised their children.
She was an active member of WELCA and Ladies Aid. Phyllis enjoyed playing cards, reading and family gatherings. She was known for being a great cook and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Phyllis is survived by her children, Karen (Steven) Smith of Anamosa, Caryles "Chuck" (Bonnie) Morarend of Dubuque, Steven (Mary) Morarend of Lansing and Kevin (Laura) Morarend of Guttenberg; son-in-law, Rick Young of Mayhill, N.M.; grandchildren, Troy (Lynn) Smith, Jeff (Jessica) Smith, Chad (Kim) Morarend, Quinn (Cheryl) Morarend, Shane (special friend Carol) Morarend, Melissa (Brett) Ishman, Tim (fiancee, Ashley) Morarend and Hilliary Morarend; 12 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons in infancy, two daughters, Leanna Morarend and Jo Ann Young; and two sisters, Dorothy Niehaus and Verda Mae Moser.
Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 001 S. Industrial Park Rd., Garnavillo. The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Garnavillo. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. The Rev. Bruce L. Hanson will officiate. Interment will be at Garnavillo Community Cemetery.
