Ann Hunter joined her ancestors Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015, after complications from heart failure. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3 to 5 p.m. at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, where a funeral service will begin at 5 p.m. Private family burial at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island, will take place at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Asso-ciation, Augustana College, Rock Island, St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, or Iowa City Hospice.

Shirley Ann (Baker) Hunter was born July 26, 1930, in Moline, Ill., to Margaret Lorraine (Simmon) Baker and John Kenneth Baker. Ann attended Rock Island High School, Augustana College, Lutheran Hospital School for Nurses and the University of Iowa.
Ann married John K. Hunter on Dec. 19, 1953, in Rock Island. In 1956, the couple moved to Iowa City, where they lived for over 50 years in their house in the woods at the end of Washington Street. Ann moved to Legacy Pointe in 2013.
Ann was a nurse, working at the university and Mercy as an instructor of nursing. She retired from Iowa City VA Health Care System where she started the quality assurance program.
Ann was an avid genealogist, computer user, collector and volunteer. She was a life member of Pilgrim Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, where she served as regent, registrar, and on many state committees. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, VA volunteer, Red Hats and a Creative Memories consultant. She also was past worthy advisor of Rock Island Chapter and past grand worthy associate advisor of Order of the Rainbow of Illinois, Order of the Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, charter member St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, Ladies of the Grand Army of the Republic, many historical and genealogical societies and several professional organizations.
Celebrating Ann's life are her only daughter, Sabrina Alberhasky (Doug); her grandchildren, JD and Jessica; nephew, Jamie Hunter; niece, Beth Masterson; and sister-in-law, Lynn Hunter.
Her parents and husband, John, preceded her in death.
