Paul Brooks, 96, of Fairfax, Minn., died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014, at the Fairfax Community Home in Fairfax.
He was born May 24, 1918, in Hopkinton, Minn., the son of Homer H. and Nellie Brooks. He married Myrtle Haggstad On Aug. 13, 1944, at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, Minn. She preceded him in death.
Paul graduated from Mount Vernon High School. He worked for Noxera Pastry Shop before entering the U.S. Army on April 2, 1942, and received his honorable discharge Jan. 24, 1946. Paul was employed by the U.S. Post Office. Paul was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Cedar Rapids and St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fairfax.
Survivors include his children, Judith Waterfield of Redwood Falls, Minn., and Clifford Brooks of Waterloo, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Bernice Brooks.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marjory; and brother, Robert.
He was an avid Twins fan and enjoyed watching baseball, basketball and football, especially the University of Iowa. He enjoyed gardening, camping, traveling and playing cards and games.
Services: 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fairfax, Minn., with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Tuesday until the time of service at the church.
