Lawrence A. Althoff, 78, of Coggon, died Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at the family farm in Coggon. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 5, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Ryan, by the Rev. Joseph Schneider. The family will greet friends from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 4, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Central City, with a scripture service beginning at 2 p.m. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Ryan.
Survivors include his sisters, Darlene (Ed) Offerman of Coggon and Doris Kozlowski of Evanston, Ill.; nieces and nephews, Jim and Ken Thielen, Anita DeBo, Renee Hanson, Rebecca Hite, Charlotte Grill and Nathan Kozlowski; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vernon Althoff; and brothers-in-law, Vince Thielen and Greg Kozlowski.
Lawrence was born Dec. 22, 1936, in Anamosa, the son of Andrew and Agnes (Nadermann) Althoff. He attended Cascade rural schools. Lawrence was a lifelong farmer in Coggon. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Ryan. Lawrence cared very much for his dog, Buddy. He enjoyed Case tractors, baseball, fishing and watching eagles.
