Patricia Francis Bretz, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center, Cedar Rapids.
Patricia was born March 20, 1922, on a farm west of Delhi, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Francis Oehler Doyle. She attended Hazel Green Country School and graduated from Delhi High School with the class of 1939. In 1942, she graduated from Mount Mercy Junior College. Pat was an administrative secretary at Craemer's Department Store and later at Collins Radio.
Pat was married to Robert Bretz on June 10, 1950, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monti. They bought their first farm south of Monti, where they raised two girls and seven boys. Bob died March 2, 2003.
In later years, Pat enjoyed visiting the farm and the Monti community.
She was a humble, gracious lady, a wonderful mother with unwavering courage. An inspiration to all, Pat will forever be missed by her family and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Robert; daughter, Sheri; son, Philip; two sisters, Denise Singer and Germaine Ford; and brother, James.
Survivors include her daughter, Connie LaBarge of Marion; her six sons, Dave (Katie) of West Des Moines, Dick (Trish) of Corpus Christi, Texas, Lyle (Merri) of Ames, Lynn (Mary Anne) of Visalia, Calif., Marc (Raechelle) of Solon and Mike (Lisa) of North Liberty; and son-in-law, Jon (Roberta) McCright of Cedar Rapids.
Also surviving are 13 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her brother, Tom (Marlene) Doyle of Hazleton; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Celebration will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 19, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monti, with burial in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 2:30 until 6 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at the Monti Community Center, and on Monday after 10 a.m. at the church. There will be a rosary at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Memorials may be directed to the family.
