Ronald Dean Sr. Halstead, 72, of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family after a long illness on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital. Services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids. The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at the funeral home. Burial: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his children, Ronald Jr. (Lynette) Halstead of Marion and Rhonda (John) Jennings and Sharon Halstead, both of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Adam, Ashley, Brandon, Nicole, Amanda, Jager, Samantha and James Steward; seven great-grandchildren; siblings: twin sister, Rosella Jean Keeton and Edith Blanton, Robert Halstead and Mary Vineyard, all of Iowa City, and Viola Philps of West Palm Beach, Fla.; many nieces and nephews; and his dog, Precious.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joy; son, Craig Halstead; son-in-law, Bradley McDowell; and several siblings.
Ronald was born May 19, 1942, the son of Craig and Esther (Hall) Halstead, in Iowa City, Iowa. On Aug. 14, 1965, he was united in marriage to Joy Hunter in Aleto, Ill. She died in 2006. Ronald worked as a mechanic at Sun Line in Cedar Rapids, retiring from there after 38 years of service.
Ronald enjoyed working on cars, fishing, watching wrestling on TV, telling jokes and camping.
His greatest love was being with his grand-children and great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
