Douglas D. Riis, "Shmokey," 72, of Marion, Iowa, peacefully entered Heaven on Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, in the comfort of his own bed at home with his loving family by his side. Married 53 years, he is now with his soulmate, Betty "Bette" Riis, together again to dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
He is survived by his three children, Vicki, Rick and Dean; his sisters, Darlene, Denise and Devon; and his brother, Don.
He was loved by many and will be missed forever.
Born in Hampton, Iowa, he served in the Air Force, SSGT, missile mechanic, December 1960-68, with an honorable discharge. His passion was archi-tectural/engineering technician with Howard R. Green, AutoCAD Drafting since 1993. He also loved fishing for walleye and golfing with his buddies and sons. Sitting in front of his fireplace in his favorite recliner was the best watching golf along with holidays with family. He always said, "Make it count and never stop living."
Rest in peace Papa/Pops.
