Larry Martin Cirkl, 77, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Urbana, died Thursday, Jan. 15, 2015, at St. Luke's Hospital. A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Visitation: 5 until 7 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. Inurnment will take place at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Larry was born July 11, 1937, in rural Fairfax, Iowa, the son of Charles Joseph and Irene Marie (Shenberger) Cirkl. He served honorably in the United States Army. As a young man, he worked at Harper's Body Shop and Bob Zimmerman Ford Body Shop. He was united in marriage to Patricia Ann Brody in 1958; they were later divorced.
Larry was a lieutenant with the Cedar Rapids Fire Department for over 30 years. He enjoyed restoring pedal cars and old gas pumps. He also enjoyed following the Iowa Hawkeyes.
He is survived by three children, Jeff Cirkl of Columbia, Mo., Martin Cirkl of Cedar Rapids and Cindy (Steve) Wolfe of Urbana; four grandchildren, Carl Cirkl of Miami, Fla., Melissa Cirkl of Amana, Erin Cirkl of Columbia, Mo., and Antonia Wolfe of Urbana; one great-grandson, Landon Cirkl of Columbia, Mo.; brother, Andrew (Dixie) Cirkl of Robins; and sister, Flora (Eugene) McIntosh of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his spouse, Patricia; and daughter, Debra Kay Cirkl, in 1959.
A memorial fund has been established in Larry's name.
