Harlan "Whitey" Brinkman, 91, of Wyoming, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, in
Anamosa. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction. Friends and family may call Friday, Dec. 18, from 3 to 7 p.m., with the rosary being recited at 7 p.m., at Lahey Funeral Home in Wyoming. Burial will be in Wyoming Cemetery.
Harlan was born July 6, 1923, in Massillon, Iowa, to parents, Charles and Bessie (Gregg) Brinkman. He was united in marriage to Mary Rouse on Aug. 24, 1946, in DeWitt, Iowa. Harlan worked for Maquoketa Bottling Works, Big Bill's Feeds in Onslow and retired from Cherry-Burrell. He also worked part-time for Swiss Valley for 15 years after retirement.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oxford Junction, American Legion Post 259, Wyoming fair board, Wyoming Lions Club and was a volunteer with the Wyoming Historical Museum.
He enjoyed carpentry and watching CNN news. Harlan served his country during World War II with the United States Navy.
He is survived by his children, Charles "Charlie" (Ryoko) Brinkman of Honolulu, Hawaii, R. Michael Brinkman of Indianapolis, Steven (Debra) Brinkman of Wyoming, Susan (Bill) Collins of East Dubuque, Ill., Paul Brinkman of Moline, Ill., and Amy (Rich) Foust of Ankeny; 10 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; his sister, Gladys Seifert of Wheatland; and his brother, Raymond "Ike" (Laura) Brinkman of Lost Nation.
Harlan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary; five brothers, three sisters and his son-in-law.
Memorials are preferred.
