Leon Charles DeMeyer, 83, formerly of Birming-ham, passed away Thursday, Feb. 19, 2015, at Village House, John Knox Village, in Lees Summit, Mo. Per his request, his body has been cremated. There will not be any visitation. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with Father Nick Adam officiating. After the service there will be military rites. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.

Leon was born Oct. 19, 1931, to Jerome and Flavia Ann Marie (Boudonck) DeMeyer in Hartwick, Iowa. He married Ella Jean Yanda on April 19, 1954, at St. Patrick's in Tama. They celebrated 47 years of marriage before she passed away Jan. 20, 2002.
Leon served in the Army during the Korean War. He was an auto body man working at various businesses. Leon raced stock cars for many years and was a NASCAR enthusiast. He also enjoyed country music, gardening (flowers), painting and playing pool.
He is survived by six children, Victoria (Steve) Ledger of Richland, Debra (Denny) Wolfer of Albia, Paula (Mike) Marr of Strafford, Mo., Christopher (Susan) DeMeyer of Lees Summit, Mo., James (Theresa) DeMeyer of Mount Pleasant and Matthew (Crystal) DeMeyer of Springfield, Mo.; 22 grandchildren; 37 great- grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Alice Van Quenkelburg of Victor and Janice (LeRoy) Bringman of Victor; one brother, Robert (Diane) DeMeyer of Hartwick; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ella Jean DeMeyer; his parents, Jerome and Flavia DeMeyer; grandparents; and two grandchildren, Michael and Christopher.
