Amy Sconyers Jr., known to family and friends as "Junior," 78, of Cedar Rapids, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2014, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, Hiawatha. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Deacon Jim Berger. Family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home. Military honors will take place. Entombment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife, Lois; his children, Pam (Joe) Staub of Washougal, Wash., Jeryl Lynn (Bob) Burns of Urbana and Jackie Sumner, Randy Sconyers and Mike Sumner, all of Cedar Rapids; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Patricia (Mike) Lathrop of Onslow; and brother, Doug (Sheri) Moylan of Swisher.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Ricky Sconyers; and first wife, Patricia Sconyers.
Junior was born Aug. 9, 1936, the son of Amy and Virginia (Hartzog) Sconyers in Enterprise, Ala. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955 to 1957. Junior worked as a sheet metal worker in Omaha, Neb., before moving in 1959 to Cedar Rapids, where he started his apprenticeship with Sheet Metal Workers Local 263. He served many elected positions with Local 263, including business manager from 1973 to 1985. Junior retired in 1991.
Junior married Lois Siemering on Dec. 28, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nev. He enjoyed their houseboat along the Mississippi River and fishing. Junior also enjoyed watching the news and discussing politics. Junior was a member of the Sheet Metal Retirees Club.
