Carol Lea (Heinze) Ralston, 60, of Urbandale, died after a brave eight-week battle with colon cancer on Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 14, at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Pkwy., West Des Moines, with visitation one hour before the service. Graveside services will be at 5 p.m. Sunday, July 16, at Alice Union Cemetery, southwest of Grundy Center.
Carol was born Oct. 6, 1956, in Cedar Rapids to James and Mildred Ann (Vosdingh) Heinze, and raised in the Amana Colonies. She graduated from Amana High School, attended the University of Northern Iowa and graduated from Faith Baptist Bible College. Following her marriage to Scott Ralston, Carol lived in Connecticut and worked as a legal secretary for two law firms. After moving to Urbandale, she was a Pampered Chef director for many years. She had worked since 2007 for MidAmerican Energy Business as a business continuity and security coordinator.
Carol was a wonderful wife, daughter, mother, sister, grandma, co-worker and friend. She had numerous talents as a great scrapbook artist, decorator, holiday planner and hostess. Whatever she did was done with extreme taste and detail.
Carol was devoted to her family. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 34 years, Scott Ralston of Urbandale; three children, Lindsey Ralston of West Des Moines, Caleb Ralston of Cedar Rapids and Seth Ralston of Urbandale; granddaughter, Maddie Dirksen; mother, Mildred Ann Heinze of Amana; sister, Lisa (Oscar) Rosales of Des Moines; many extended family members; and her beloved dog, Murphy.
She was preceded in death by her father, James Heinze.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Ruth Harbor or the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa.
