Dorothy C. Shay, 98, died peacefully Monday, June 26, 2017, surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at
10 a.m. Friday, June 30, at
the Newman Center with Father Steven Witt officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Newman Center.
Dorothy was born Dec. 4, 1918, in Iowa City, the daughter of Albert and Carrie Scheetz Campion. She was a graduate of Irish Business College. On Feb. 11, 1942, Dorothy married LaVerne "Squeek" Shay.
Dorothy and Squeek established Shay Electric in the late 1950s. She enjoyed playing cards, crossword puzzles and bingo. Most important to Dorothy was her family.
Dorothy is survived by her four daughters, Linda Shay of Cedar Rapids, Karen (Tom) Holmes of Joelton, Tenn., and Patty (Wayne) Frantz and Mary Ellen (Tom) Hein, both of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Sara (Nate) Sundblad, Meagan (Tim) McClimon, Jill (Jesse) Donnenwerth, Jamie (Stuart) Baxter, Kenzie Hein and Andrew Hein; nine great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Bill Shay; and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brother and sister.
