Herman Lemmer, 81, of Monticello, died Sunday, Aug. 27, 2017, at the Monticello Nursing and Rehab. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Sept. 1, at Kramer Funeral Home in Monticello, where a funeral service will commence at noon. The Rev. Ed Moreano will officiate. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cascade.
Herman was born July 5, 1936, in Cascade, Iowa, the son of Jacob and Rosella Lemmer. He worked at Georgia Pacific in Monticello for many years. Herman loved to ride his bicycle around town and would often end up at the library to read the newspaper. He also loved traveling, especially to various state fairs.
Survivors include five sisters, Patricia Lux of Dubuque, Dorthy Aschtgen of Cascade, Betty (Dick) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Rose (Dean) Mason of Carson and Monica Chapman of Manchester; three brothers, Robert (Madonna) Lemmer and Jim (Kathy) Lemmer, both of Monticello, and Mike (Laurie) Lemmer of Cascade; a sister-in-law, Janet Lemmer of Cedar Falls and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Theresa Chapman; a brother, Richard Lemmer; and brothers-in-law, Bill Lux, Elmer Aschtgen, Glen Chapman and LaVerl Chapman.
