Maurice Lee Anderson, 74, of Iowa City, passed away Monday, Dec. 18, 2017, at his home. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Maury was born Oct. 3, 1943, in Swea City, Iowa, the son of Carl and Hulda (Dretsch) Anderson. He received a master's in art from UNI. Maury was an art educator until 1996. He was united in marriage to Sharon Sabatka. They had two daughters and later divorced. Maury was united in marriage to Glenalee Cobb on June 22, 1985. She preceded him in death in 2007.
He sang and played multiple instruments and, in his younger days, he played keyboards in several bands. Maury was very artistic and enjoyed a multimedia of art from pen and ink drawings to pottery. He was an avid history buff, specifically the Revolutionary War. Maury enjoyed going to rendezvous, where he played guitar and banjo. He loved reading books and often had too many irons in the fire. Maury was a creative, generous and stubborn man who enjoyed a quiet audience.
Maury is survived by his two daughters, Shana Giese (Rich) of Cedar Rapids and Darcy Anderson (fiance Nick Hopper) of Colfax; and three grandchildren, Caitlin, Emma and Jaden.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Glenalee; and three siblings, Wallace, Phyllis and Dale.
