William M. "Bill" Claypool, 83, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017. Services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday
at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
William was born Aug. 29, 1934, at his grandparents' farm near Hopeville, Iowa. Bill met his wife, Trudy, in Creston, Iowa, where they both attended high school. They moved to Cedar Rapids after the birth of their first child, Alan.
A loving family man, Bill spent most of his 42-year career as a service mechanic traveling the world for Iowa Manufacturing. He also served on the board of the company's credit union. Bill also worked part time as a security officer for various business and events.
Bill loved to fish, so the family went camping on a regular basis. For years, he and Trudy traveled to Minnesota with friends to catch their limit. Bill enjoyed friends and family and didn't pass up the opportunity to tell stories and jokes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Sophia; a sister, Charlene (Harrison); and his son, Alan.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Terry and Tony;
a daughter, Tami; five grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren.
