Donna Prince, 93, of Fort Dodge, passed away Monday, March 13, 2017, at Fort Dodge Health and Rehab Center in Fort Dodge. Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 24, at Gunderson Funeral Chapel in Fort Dodge. Burial will be in North Lawn Cemetery. A time of gathering for family and friends will be from 12:30 p.m. until time of service on Friday at Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
Donna Viola Hurley, the daughter of Roy and Amanda (Schwabbauer) Hurley, was born Oct. 12, 1923, in Fort Dodge. She graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School and helped her mother run the Silhouette Gym in Fort Dodge. In January 1944, Donna was united in marriage to James B. Prince. After their marriage, the couple made Fort Dodge their home. To this union they had six children: Janet, Ron, Carolyn, Gloria, Peggy and Jim. In 1966, they moved to Cedar Rapids, and the couple divorced after 30 years of marriage. Donna worked at Kmart for many years before she retired at age 65. After her retirement, Donna handled out samples at her local grocery store.
In September of last year, Donna moved back to Fort Dodge and entered Fort Dodge Heath and Rehab Center. She loved going to casinos, playing bingo, dancing and spending time with her family.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Lori) Prince of Somers, Iowa, Carolyn (Keith) Ekstrom of Fort Dodge, Peggy (Steve) Nieuwsma of Marion and Jim Prince of Cannon Falls, Minn.; 21 grandchildren; several great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Donna was preceded in death by her parents; her children, Janet Spencer and Gloria Tedrow; her brother, Roy "Bud" Hurley; and her sisters, Mary Lou DeWeerdt and Susan Shipman.
