Phyllis Edna Salm, 86, passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 9, 2017, at Mercy Iowa City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, at St. Patrick Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City, where a rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.
Phyllis was born Sept. 23, 1930, in Sigourney, Iowa, the daughter of August and Anna Striegel Peiffer. On June 27, 1950, Phyllis married August Salm in Harper, Iowa. Most important to Phyllis were her husband, Augie, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, and will be greatly missed.
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Augie, and their five children, Diana (Tary) Werts of Cheyenne, Wyo., Jean (Bill) Cooney of Thornton, Colo., Terrance (Ellen) Salm of Vero Beach, Fla., and Randall (Denise) Salm and Jeffrey (Tina) Salm, both of Iowa City; 11 grandchildren, Christina, Andrew, Michelle, Jeremiah, Stacey, Tiffany, Kelli, Molli, Sebastian August "Auggie," Brooke and Brittany; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Jackson, Jacob, Joseph, Jake, Makayla, Allison, JD, Lincoln, Kaleb, Abby, Rylin, Maximus, Myles and Willow; her sisters, Lyola Kaska, Marjorie Bower and Marian Emmack; daughter-in-law, Janice Salm; and son-in-law, Douglas Herdliska; and numerous, cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Thomas; her daughter, Shirley Herdliska; daughter-in-law, Tamra Salm; and grandson, Matthew.
