Dorothe J. Connell, 91, died Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 11, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Rudolph Juarez officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Church or to the City High Booster Club.
Dorothe was born Oct. 14, 1925, in Iowa City, the daughter of Earl and Novella Bradley Gilpin. She was a graduate of City High School. Dorothe married William D. Connell on Jan. 27, 1948. Dorothe and her husband owned and operated Bill's Plumbing and Heating for over 50 years.
She was a member of St. Patrick's Church, the City High Alumni Association and was an outreach minister for St. Wenceslaus Church at the Iowa City Care Center. Dorothe loved to cook and spend time with her family.
The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff at Lantern Park Care Center and UIHC. Special thanks to Dr. Gwen Beck for being a wonderful caregiver and friend.
Dorothe is survived by her three children and seven grandchildren, Mike (Chris) Connell of Iowa City and their children, Kelly and Cory (Michelle) Connell; Chris (Jeff) Dwyer of Iowa City and children, Carrie (Devin) Wilson and Kaci (Jesse) Maire; and Cherie (Jim) Alberhasky of Iowa City and children, Ryan, Tyler and Connor; and five great-grandchildren, Cole and Cara Connell, Tate Wilson and Maddelin and Elliot Maire.
Dorothe was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother, William Gilpin.
