Melvin was born Dec. 9, 1934, in Bloomsdale, Mo., the son of Marion and Lucille (Werner) Carron. He has worked for Wilson-Farmstead, the city of Cedar Rapids, and most recently, Hawkeye Downs.
Melvin loved spending time with his family. One of his favorite things to do was going to his granddaughter Rachel's farm and seeing all of the animals. He also enjoyed going back to Missouri to visit his family and visit the family farm he grew up on. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and word and crossword puzzles. He loved playing bingo and going to the casino, which he was very lucky at both. He was definitely the No. 1 fan for the St. Louis Cardinals; he never missed a game.
He was a great man and will be missed.
Surviving family includes his six children, Wanita McNabb (Bill) of Stanwood, Casey Harris (Nancy) of Marion, Carol Harris of Cedar Rapids, Alice Mulholland (Bill) of Bertram, Rob Harris of Iowa City and Rick Harris (Kiley) of Marion; grandchildren, Justin McNabb (Crystal), Rachel Peek (Mitch), Josh McNabb, Kaitlynn McNabb (Travis), Josh Harris (Angie), Matt Mulholland (Stacy), Teresa Mercure (Trevor), Tony Harris (Katie), Kady Hemphill and Heather Hemphill; and great-grandchildren, Domanic, Sam, Logan, Wyatt, Jayden, Damien, Jaxson, Jersey, Liam, Emma, Braxton, Finn, Kennedy and Baby Hawkins.

Tara (Lee), Patrick (Valarie), Ashley and Shawn (Tristen); and great-grandchildren, Jonathon, Hayden, Brody, Baby L. and Baby B.
