James "Jim" D. Shay, 65,
of Cedar Rapids, passed away peacefully Thursday, April
13, 2017, at home. Celebration of Love will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service
in Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his fiance, Debbie Benson; daughter, Dawn Shay-Braun (Bill); stepdaughter, Teri Benson (Jason); granddaughter, Chloe; siblings, Gene Shay (Shirley), Larry Shay (Marge) and Karen Reynolds (Kyle); numerous nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Smoke.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Neil McGee; and brother, Lee Shay.
Jim was born July 10, 1951, son of Clarence and Adella (Rienke) Shay, in Oelwein, Iowa. He was a self-employed contractor.
An avid fisherman and a below-average golfer, Jim was passionate about the things he loved. Jim's sense of humor didn't always tickle everyone's fancy. But if he loved you, he loved you completely.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Fish and Wildlife Trust Fund found at www.iowadnr.gov in memory of Jim.
