On Sunday, April 9, from 1:30 to 4 p.m., a gathering of family and close friends will be held at Cedar Ridge Winery honoring the life of Bradley Wayne Smith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, lately of Charlotte, N.C. He died unexpectedly on March 22, 2017. There are no formal services scheduled; his ashes will be interred in a private ceremony at a later date.

Throughout his entire life, Brad was an imaginative, creative and vibrant man, evidenced in both his personal and professional interests. He was known in Cedar Rapids through Smithfield Recording Studio, where he was the co-owner and recording engineer, working with local musical talent and ad agencies. Brad also was deeply involved with the Cedar Rapids Symphony. In his personal life, Brad appreciated cooking, fine dining and wines. He pursued sports, rappelling and winemaking. From 2002 to 2004, Brad was general manger of Cedar Brewing Co. Like his siblings, he developed a passion for photography and videography, and pursued photography as a profession in both Princeton, N.J., and Charlotte, N.C., where he was active in the film community.

Brad was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Cedar Rapids and First Presbyterian Church in Charlotte.

Brad was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew G. Smith Sr. and Ruth R. Smith; and two brothers, Andrew G. Smith Jr. and David O. Smith.

He is survived by his sister, Sara F. Smith of Mount Vernon and Las Vegas. Other family survivors include his nephew, Matthew Burgess; niece, Lindsey Burgess; four great-nieces; and a great-nephew. Also surviving is D'Anne Hotchkiss, his life partner.
