ANTON "TONY" JOSEPH SVOBODA

Anton "Tony" Joseph Svoboda, 81, of Luzerne, died Tuesday, June 20, 2017, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids, due to complications of pancreatic cancer. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 24, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids, with visitation one hour before the service. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
Tony was born May 19, 1936, the son of Joe and Elsie (Straka) Svoboda, in Amana, Iowa. He was married to Loretta Harris on May 31, 1957, in Cedar Rapids. Tony worked as a tooling machine mechanic for FMC Corporation in Cedar Rapids, and later retired from Midland Forge.
He had many hobbies, including hunting, fishing, trap shooting and gardening. Tony also enjoyed reading and all genres of music. He was past president of Otter Creek Sportsman Club, as well as past mayor of Luzerne. Tony was a hard worker and always was tinkering with something.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife, Loretta Svoboda; daughter, Chris Freel; son, DeWayne (Holly) Svoboda; four grandchildren, Shanna (John) Hillier, Jared (Sara) Freel, Matthew (Julia) Freel and Cameron (Emily) Svoboda; five great-grandchildren, Chloe, Ean, Elliott, Emmet and Ascher; brother, Arthur; and sister, Joanne (Rudy).
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Wagner; parents; brother, Ed; sister, Angeline; and son-in-law, Steve Freel.
