GARY MCCLURE
Cedar Rapids
Gary Lee McClure, 62, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, June 5, 2017, after a courageous 11-year fight against cancer. Funeral
Mass: 11 a.m. Monday, June 12, at All Saints Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, with visitation two hours before the service.
Gary was born Feb. 4, 1955, in Washington, Iowa. He married Linda Bierman on Sept. 20, 1975, in Dyersville. Gary worked at Hy-Vee for 39 years, retiring as a store director in 2010.
One of his favorite things to do was plan vacations and travel with his family. He traveled all over the United States and the world. Gary's favorite place to visit was the Big Island of Hawaii, which was like a second home.
Gary was a selfless man, devoted husband, loving father and papa. He enjoyed time with his family, fishing, golfing, biking, being outdoors and cooking.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife of 42 years, Linda McClure; three children, Jennifer (Marshall) Sanders, Brian (Stephanie) McClure and Jeff (Trisha) McClure. He is remembered by his grandchildren, Truman, Grayson, Holden, Graham, Emery, Asher and baby girl McClure due in October. He also is survived by his parents, Patricia and Marvin McClure of Washington, Iowa; and his younger sisters, Sue (Steve) Norman, Jane (Ron) Janecek and Judy (Alan) Wery.
Gary was an Eagle Scout and was very generous with his time and energy to the Boy Scouts.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Bharat Jenigiri, Dr. Jeffrey Krivit, Dr. Wook Lee and Dr. Steve Heddinger for their compassion and care during his cancer journey.
Memorials may be directed to Camp Wakonda Boy Scout Camp, 4521 Boy Scouts Rd., Central City, IA 52214, in Gary's memory.
