Betty Mae Grabin, 91, of rural Oxford, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2017, at the Lantern Park Specialty Center in Coralville. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford, with burial to follow at the Heifner/Grabin Cemetery near Oxford. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Memorial donations in her memory can be made to Iowa City Hospice or to St. Mary's Catholic Church. Betty was born May 15, 1926, at home, in the same house where her father was born, north of Oxford, Iowa, the daughter of Frank J. "Scout" and Elizabeth (Erusha) Grabin. She attended a one-room country school through eighth grade and then attended Oxford High School, graduating with the class of 1944. Betty was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford. She spent most of her life on the family farm caring for her parents and seven nieces and nephews, and enjoying her family and friends. In 2001, she moved from Oxford to Lantern Park Care Center, where she received the most compassionate care, sincere support, and the genuine feeling of love, home and family for over 16 years.
Her family lovingly thanks the entire Lantern Park staff very much and sincerely appreciates all they did for Betty throughout the years. Her family would also like to acknowledge their sincere appreciation for the care and concern given to Betty from the many doctors, nurses and staff at Mercy Iowa City.
Her family includes her brother and his wife, Ray and Dorothy Grabin of Oxford; nieces and nephews, Gayle Stratton of Oxford, Sam Grabin (Sammy) of North Liberty, the Rev. Sue-Ellen Sherman (Brian) of Springville, Lee Grabin (Rose) of Oxford, Debbie Lefebure (Dean) of Fairfax, Joel Grabin (Joan) of Oxford and Jamie Grabin (Barb) of Oxford; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and their wives, Vincent and Kathryn Grabin and William and Betty June Grabin; and sister and her husband, Elsie and Joe Wilson.
