Andy Gates
ANDY GATES Brandon Andy R. Gates, 48, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2016, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following an extended illness. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St. in Vinton with Father Ardel Barta officiating. Interment will be at Brandon Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday. A memorial fund has been established. Andy was born Oct. 20, 1967, in Vinton to Robert and Margo (Saddoris) Gates, and graduated from Independence High School. He then attended Tech School in Calmar. Andy was a carpenter and member of Carpenter's Union No. 308 in Cedar Rapids. He loved fishing and was an avid duck hunter. He is survived by his parents, Robert and Margo Gates of Brandon; and his children, Jocelyn, Andrew and Hunter Gates of La Porte City. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Anna Jaeger.
