Mildred Mary Sperry, 97, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Lisbon, died Thursday, Aug. 3, 2017. Graveside services in September at Pilot Grove Union Cemetery, Williamsburg, Iowa. Arrangements are with Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services, Mount Vernon.
Mildred is survived by her children, Betty (Jim) Epley of Shell Rock, and Jack (Madeline) Sperry of Arizona; grandchildren, Deb (Petur) Bennett-Jonsson of Iceland, Sherry Karg of White Bear Township, Minn., Mindy (Brad) Labs of Lisbon, and Scott Sperry of Cedar Rapids; five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and nephew, Philip Jones.
Born on Oct. 1, 1919, in Williamsburg to Fred and Anna (Slager) Klever, Mildred graduated from Williamsburg High School. She married Paul Sperry in Williamsburg on Sept. 19, 1939. Over the years, she worked in school lunchrooms, retail shops and at Bishops, but her favorite job was being a mom and grandma.
Mildred enjoyed reading, knitting and shopping. Her favorite pastime was eating at Gwen's in Lisbon, taking family members with her whenever possible.
Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Paul; parents; and siblings, Alfred (Leona) Klever and Mabel (Tom) Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
