It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Phyllis Joan Storm on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2017. Born in 1932 in North Platte, Neb., to Dora Martha and Herman Cecil Helms, sister to Nancy Loftsgard, Ron Helms of Newton, Iowa, Don Helms and Julie Evans of Meridian, Idaho, Phyllis met and married her devoted husband of 63 years, Wallace G. Storm, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She is survived by her five adult children, Kimberly Shaw of Chicago, Ill., Bradley Storm of Sunrise, Fla., Douglas Storm of Akron, Ohio, Pamela Parsons of Bonita Springs, Fla., and Victoria Storm of Oak Park, Ill.; their five spouses; and 10 grandchildren.

Phyllis went to Iowa State College and worked at Collins Radio Co. as a draftsman prior to having children. She raised her family with Wally, following his work with the Timken Co., to Canton, Ohio, Pittsburgh, Pa., Livonia, Mich., again to Canton, Ohio, and finally to Bloomfield Township, Mich. She and Wally retired to Keowee, S.C., before returning to the Akron, Ohio, area in their later years.

She was an outstanding homemaker, loving mother and devoted wife. She loved to laugh, serve her church community, volunteer for a variety of causes and stay connected to her beloved extended family members. She made many friends wherever she went, and was a model of grace, kindness and generosity. She loved traveling and exploring new places, was an incredible seamstress, loved to read novels, and had mastered the art of cooking.

A public memorial service is scheduled in Akron, Ohio, at Copley United Methodist Church, 1518 S. Cleveland Massillon Rd., Copley, Ohio, on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 1 p.m. Eventual interment will be made at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids. Cards are welcomed. Donations to the Alzheimer's Association may be made in lieu of flowers or gifts, if desired.
