Judith Ann Gorman, 78, longtime resident of Marion, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, surrounded by her loving family, following an extended illness. Services: 11 a.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. The Rev. Mark Kwinen will officiate. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at the State Room at the Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Survivors include her sons, Christopher (Shannon) and Kevin (Kathryn); her grandson, Kevin; brothers, David, Jack (Patricia), Richard and James Carstensen; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Gorman; parents, Detlef C. and Olivia C. Carstensen; and her sisters-in-law, Annette (James) and Joanne (David).
Judy was born on Dec. 14, 1938, in Clinton, and graduated from Clinton High School in 1957. After graduating from the University of Iowa in 1961, she taught in elementary schools in the Twin Cities and Chicago suburbs. She married John P. Gorman on Oct. 15, 1966, at Sacred Heart Church in Clinton, and moved to Marion in 1979. She was a former president and treasurer of the KJ Chapter of the PEO Sisterhood, and was an active participant in the Meals on Wheels program for over 26 years. She also volunteered for the Emergency Animal Rescue Service at Kirkwood Community College during the 2008 flood in Cedar Rapids. Judy loved caring for both dogs and cats throughout her life.
An avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, she never missed a game, whether in person or on TV. What Judy cherished most of all was spending time with family. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister and aunt, who will be greatly missed.
Special thanks to the staff of Homewatch CareGivers, and particularly Elaine Gunn, for their care service over the past two years, as well as the doctors and staff of the Hall-Perrine Cancer Center.
