Jerald "Jerry" F. Heims, 73, of Manchester, died Friday, Oct. 6, 2017. Visitation: 3 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Manchester, with a Scripture service at 3 p.m. Funeral Mass: 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 10, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Manchester, conducted by the Rev. Joseph Schneider, with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial: St. Mary Catholic Cemetery, Manchester.
Jerry was born April 6, 1944, in Earlville, on the family farm, the son of Raymond and Helen (Dunkel) Heims. He graduated from Maquoketa Valley High School in 1962. Jerry married Darlene DeShaw on Aug. 8, 1964, at Immaculate Conception Church in Hopkinton. Jerry was employed by Peoples Natural Gas for 27 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a eucharistic minister. Jerry really enjoyed traveling, fishing and playing cards, but most of all, he loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Heims of Manchester; children, Mark (Ginger) Heims of Great Falls, Mont., Nancy (Paul) Atkinson of Raymore, Mo., Ron (Shelly) Heims of West Des Moines, Marsha (Matt) Weatherwax of Gloucester, Va.; and daughter by heart, Tami (Dylan) Moore of Marion; grandchildren, Kyleigh, Brendan, Mike, Troy (Lisa), Kaitlyn, Kelsey, Grace, Lexi, Martin, Mimi and Aiden; brother, James "Jim" (Sharon) Heims; brother-in-law, Darrell "Red" Goldsmith; and mother-in-law, Betty DeShaw.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Heims and Helen Heims Bonert; brother, Donald Heims; and sisters, Betty (Loras) Kremer, Irene (Loren) Salow and Ann Goldsmith.
