Norbert (Norb) Borcherding, 70, died peacefully at home on Sunday, Nov. 19, 2017, after a two-year battle with cancer. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, at Hoffmann Schneider and Kitchen Funeral Home, 3860 Asbury Rd., Dubuque. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 301 N. Adams St., Garnavillo.
Norb was born Aug. 7, 1947, in Guttenberg, Iowa, to Herbert and Lillian (Anderegg) Borcherding. He married Donna Lamker on Aug. 24, 1968, in Garnavillo. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Michael and Sandra. Norb served six years in the Iowa and Wisconsin National Guard. He was a current member of the Clay-Gar American Legion in Garnavillo and a member of the Sherrill Methodist Church. At the age of 25, Norb started his own business in Garnavillo that evolved to what became the Double L. Group LTD. While in business, Norb traveled to over 40 countries, pursuing his passion for the care and environment of confined farm animals. Norb enjoyed traveling, going to movies, playing cards and planting flowers. His two granddaughters were the joy of his life.
Norb is survived by his wife of 49 years, Donna; his daughter, Sandi; son-in-law, Steve; and granddaughters, Abbie and Gracie Shaw of Niwot, Colo.. In addition, his sister, Helene (Tom) Kuempel of Guttenberg; and his brother, Milt (Anna) Borcherding of Strawberry Point, his sister-in-laws, Dianne (Ed) Uriell of Elkader and Dixie (Brent) Lokensgard of California; and his brothers-in-law, Don Lamker of Minnesota and David (Carol) Lamker of Granavillo. Not to forget his many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael; his parents, Herb and Lillian; and his mother and father-in-law, Donald and Dorthy Lamker.
