Born Feb. 9, 1949, in Savannah, Ga., to Bessie Lee and Walter Sanders, Georgia spent most of her childhood living in Savannah, where she attended school and participated in various social activities while tending to her younger brothers and sisters.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Cedar Rapids. Visitation will begin at 10: a.m. prior to the service at the church.
At the age of 17, Georgia and her family relocated to Chicago, where she attended Hirsch High School. After attending high school, Georgia entered the workforce and met her husband, Edwin Vasser. Georgia spent the majority of her adult life living in Illinois, Iowa and Georgia. She spent the last few years in Houston, Texas, with her son.
Georgia leaves behind her husband of 51 years, Edwin Vasser of Houston; six children, Stephanie Ceaser of St. Louis, Mo., Raymond Vasser (Deena) of Cedar Rapids, Chavon Vasser (Mark) of Houston, Edwin Andre Vasser Jr (Antoinette) of Cedar Rapids, Sonya Vasser of Davenport and Kendrick Vasser (Kimberly) of Waterloo; two brothers, Donald Sanders and Willie Sanders, both of Savannah; her sisters, Annie Lee Wesley, Luvenia Ferguson (Donald), Lavon Grant (Larry), all of Savannah, Lillian Sanders and Jacquelin Canty (Steve) of Cedar Rapids and Carol Linda Sanders of Green Bay, Wis.; 25 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and the numerous people she touched in a special way and referred to her as Momma.
She was a virtuous woman who dedicated her life to Christ at an early age and remained a child of God through her entire life.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Bessie Lee Sanders; and father, Walter Sanders; four brothers, Walter Jr., Leroy Sanders, Edward Sanders and Arthur Sanders; one sister, Barbara Howard; and one grandson, Martez Ceaser Sr.
The Lord saw fit to call her home on Dec. 9, 2017.
Georgia Vasser will forever be in the hearts of those whose lives she had touched during her journey on this Earth
