Kathyrn Borcherding

KATHYRN M. BORCHERDING Guttenberg Kathyrn M. Borcherding, 75, of Guttenberg, Iowa, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2017, at the Elkader Care Center. She was born on Feb. 8, 1941, in Guttenberg, the daughter of Realto and Florence (Gull) Meisner. Kathyrn attended and graduated from Guttenberg High School with the class of 1959. On Valentine's Day, 1961, Kathyrn was united in marriage with Loren Kregel at the United Methodist Church in Guttenberg. This union blessed Loren and Kathyrn with a son, Paul. For over 35 years, Kathyrn worked as a cook at the Guttenberg school. During those years, Kathyrn received great joy interacting with the school children. Many of the kids even referred to her as Grandma. Kathyrn took pride in her work, as she truly enjoyed her job, and she was notorious for her cinnamon rolls and brownies, depending on which generation you talk to. On Nov. 4, 1998, Loren Kregel sadly and suddenly passed away. Years later, Kathyrn found friendship and compassion with a friend named Larry Borcherding. Larry and Kathyrn were later married on March 5, 2005. Kathyrn was a member of Dorcas at St. John's, and enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Kathyrn is survived by her husband, Larry; one son, Paul (Cindy) Kregel; two grandsons, Devon and Nicholas Kregel; two stepdaughters, Tammy (Scott) Meyer and Kim (Tim) Torson, and their families; one brother, Ron (Chris) Hyde; and many more relatives and friends. Kathyrn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Loren; one brother, Larry Meisner; and two sisters, Alberta Sargent and Laura Cullen. Arrangements are being handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, 207 S. First St., Guttenberg, Iowa, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 1, and one hour before the service at the church. Funeral service will be at St. John's Lutheran Church at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, with the Rev. Shane Anderson officiating. Interment will be at Guttenberg City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers and all types of sympathy, memorials can be designated to Dollars for Scholars.
