NADINE VALARAE SCHEIDT
Cedar Rapids
Nadine Valarae Scheidt,
76, of Cedar Rapids, completed her long goodbye Thursday, Dec. 15, 2016, after struggling with Alzheimer's disease for eight years. She was surrounded by family and the compassionate staff at Meadowview Memory Care. Nadine previously resided in Salina, Kan.; Tempe, Ariz.; Anchorage, Alaska; and Seattle, Wash.
Nadine worked administrative jobs for Boeing, RCA, Northwest Airlines, America West Airlines and Sunflower Bank. She volunteered for Hospice of Salina, Domestic Violence Association of Central Kansas and was very active in fundraising for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Nadine was an environmentalist decades before it was cool, picking up litter while enjoying nature as she took walks in the many places she lived. She was also an avid reader, enjoyed traveling and loved to dance! She was the heart of her family and showered her husband, children and grandchildren with love.
Nadine is survived by her siblings, Lenny (Linda) Gutenberg of Burien, Wash., and Jeanie Mendonca (John) of Honolulu, Hawaii; her children, Cherri (Joe) Lock, Carol Scheidt and Bret Scheidt; her grandchildren, Sabryna Scheidt, Bradley Lock, Richard Lock and Breah Scheidt, all of Cedar Rapids; and treasured nieces, nephews and friends.
Nadine was preceded in death by her loving husband, Dale, after 52 years of marriage; and her parents, Jack and Theodosia Gutenberg.
A gathering will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Stewart Baxter Funeral & Memorial Services in Cedar Rapids. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, MS Society or Care Initiatives Hospice.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Meadowview Memory Care Village in Cedar Rapids for their tremendous kindness and compassion. We are also grateful to Care Initiatives Hospice for helping Mom transition with peace and dignity.
Please share your support and memories with Nadine's family on her tribute wall at www.stewartbaxter.com under obituaries.
