Sandra Dunlap, 77, of Hopkinton, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, at her home following a brief illness.
A Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 30, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Interment will be in Oakwood Memorial Park Cemetery, Chatsworth, Calif., at a later date. Goettsch Funeral Home has been entrusted with Sandra's care and services.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathleen (Richard) Pohl, Granada Hills, Calif.; six grandchildren, Craig Thomas, Hopkinton, Chance Franck, Manchester, Jason Patsalis, Chatsworth, Calif., Megan (Brian) Kaczmarczyk, Elizabeth Lake, Calif., and Daniel and Ian Pohl, Granada Hills, Calif.; two great-grandchildren, Kylie and Jayden Kaczmarczyk; four sisters, Vivian Thompson, Champaign, Ill., Ruth Anne Bacon, Coggon, Wanda (David) Klaren, Hopkinton, and Wendy Dunlap, Muscatine; and two brothers, Curtis (Linda) Dunlap and Kevin Dunlap, both of Hopkinton.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three daughters, Debra, Tammy and Cynthia; and six brothers, Kenneth, Richard, Clyde, Terry, Craig and Tony.
Sandra Dunlap was born April 12, 1939, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde and Marymaude (Cornell) Dunlap. Sandra graduated from Coggon Schools, Class of 1956. She married Larry Lee Thomas on April 14, 1957, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. The couple moved to California in 1959 where Sandra was a mom and helped Larry in their property management business. In 1977, Sandra went to work at Andresens Printing Co., in Hollywood. She was an editor and proof reader. In 1977, she returned to school and received her associate degree from Los Angeles City College in 1979. She received her bachelor's degree in anthropology in 1981 from Cal State Northridge College with minors in Linguistics, Asian history, American history and a teaching certificate for English as a Second Language. She graduated Suma Cum Laude. In 2001. she graduated from Cal State Northridge. with her master's in anthropology, also Suma Cum Laude. She returned to Hopkinton in 2005 and worked as a unit manager at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. She retired in 2013 and then volunteered at the Delaware County Historical Society. She was a member of the Kensington Club in Hopkinton.
