Lee E. Voelker, 77, of Marion, died Wednesday, April 5, 2017, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha following a lengthy illness. Visitation: 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 9, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion, where a parish vigil service begins at 1 p.m. Funeral Mass: 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 10, at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, by Father Steve Garner. Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Beverly; children, Charles (Jolene) Egan of Las Vegas, Nev., David (Tasha) Egan of Marion and Larry, Lori, Scott, Aaron and Sara; many grandchildren, including Ashley Egan, Bradly Egan, Kara Egan and Emma Egan; several great-grandchildren, including Kali Mallie; one brother; and one sister.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Casper and Jane (Miller) Voelker, and a son, Robert Egan.
Lee was born Aug. 16, 1939, in Stanwood, Iowa. He graduated from West Delaware High School in Manchester, Iowa. Lee was a longtime contractor and carpenter, who will be remembered for his work on several large projects in the Cedar Rapids area, including Westdale Mall, Higley Mansion and the Five Seasons Center. He married Beverly Ann (Weber) Egan on June 1, 1991, in Coggon, Iowa.
Lee was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, Carpenters Union Local 308 of Cedar Rapids and served as a volunteer firefighter in several surrounding communities over the years.
He was a wonderful and loving father, grandfather, and husband. Lee took great pride in the time he spent with his family and volunteering at church and in the community. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
A memorial fund has been established in Lee's memory to be used in accordance with the family's wishes.
The family wishes to extend a special thank-you to the staff at Mercy Medical Center, Hospice of Mercy and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy for all the kindness shown to Lee throughout his end of life journey.
